Sir:-
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to
inform you that on receipt of your letter No.027/617
(M.0.1.) of instant, respecting a proposed reduction
of the HongKong garrison by the transfer of half
battalion of native infantry to Tientsin to replace
the balf battalion of the 36th. Sikhs at present at
that place, a telegram was addressed to His Majesty
Minister at Peking asking for his observations on
the proposed moves.
A reply has now been received from Sir J. Jordan
stating that he has no objection to the proposal,
and Bir E. Gray is accordingly prepared to concur in
the proposed movements being carried out.
